Oman’s Sustainable Yiti City infrastructure near completion

17/12/24

Oman’s flagship sustainable development, The Sustainable City – Yiti, is on track to become the region’s first net-zero emissions city by 2040.

With 96% of its infrastructure works completed, this eco-friendly community is progressing towards its goal of housing approximately 10,000 residents by 2026. The city aims to set a new benchmark for sustainable urban living, with its innovative design and commitment to environmental responsibility.

Significant milestones have been reached within the Sustainable District. The central plaza’s infrastructure is fully completed, while 31% of the plaza construction is now finished. Additionally, 33% of the villas and broader district developments have been completed. In September 2024, construction of the community's school and nursery began, marking another important phase of the project.

The next stage of development will focus on essential community facilities, including a 4-star hotel, wellness center, autism village, equestrian club, and sports complex. These components are already awarded to contractors. Other notable developments include the SEE Lab, biogas plant, public solar parking, and bridges, which will contribute to the city’s sustainable infrastructure.

Developed in partnership with the Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN), The Sustainable City – Yiti is a landmark project in Oman and the region, demonstrating the country’s commitment to sustainability. Phase one of the project has sold out, with phase two showing strong sales performance, highlighting the growing demand for eco-friendly living solutions.

Once completed, The Sustainable City – Yiti will span nearly one million square meters along the Gulf of Oman coastline, near Muscat. It will be Oman’s first operational net-zero emissions community, with a focus on reducing residents' carbon footprints by 78% compared to traditional housing. The development integrates advanced technologies and sustainable practices across six key environmental pillars: food, energy, water, mobility, waste, and products, positioning it as a global leader in sustainable urban living.
